Sox in First

This was definitely worth staying up for. The Sox beat the Royals 9-7 on a ninth inning error and a wild pitch. The error scored Paul Konerko to give the Sox the lead, and the wild pitch scored AJ Pierzynski. What a game!

Darrin Erstad swung the bat much better tonight and picked up a pair of doubles. Brian Anderson even chipped in with a double of his own, although he also hit into an inning ending double play in the eighth.

Unfortunately, Jim Thome missed the game due to a rib cage injury, and Jermaine Dye left the game due to an undisclosed injury. Alex Cintron was placed on the DL before the game, and Andy Gonzalez was called up to replace him.

In relief, Matt Thornton and Mike MacDougal looked horrible. Thornton was getting too much of the plate, and MacDougal wasn't getting any of it. Boone Logan was pretty hairy as well, although he did pick up the win while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning of work. Sandwiched between the two strikeouts were a walk and a wild pitch. Bobby Jenks was dominant in picking up the save.

I'm getting really sick of all the BA bashing as of late. Someone needs to point out to people that Konerko had similiar numbers in 2003 to BA's numbers last year. It's my personal opinion they need to give the kid a month of trying to get him in the lineup before they send him down. If he wants a shot let him play left, who cares if he makes mistakes, he's better than mack(although so far mack has only made one noticeable error this year on a ball at the wall!) Anyways, i'm personally putting you in charge of the BA can hit like PK campaign. It's time to strap it down and let BA have a chance.

Hey, on WSI ask them to name one play this year that Erstad didn't make that you said (wow BA would have made that play). Dont' be surprised when they can't because neither could the people on the score. GO SOX!

It would be nice if Anderson could hit like Konerko, but I think you have to keep in mind that Konerko had already been an All-Star in 2002. Not everyone who has a bad year is an All-Star caliber player. Some of them are just bad. I am not in favor of giving guys unlimited second chances without a proven track record.
