Big Jim

Game Recap-"You don't tug on Superman's cape.
You don't spit into the wind.
You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger,
and you don't mess around with Jim." -Jim Croce

I think that pretty much sums up tonight's White Sox game. Johann Santana was cruising along until Big Jim Thome came up in the sixth inning. One flyball to over the centerfield fence later, the score was 2-0 in favor of the Good Guys in Black. This seemed to knock the wind out of the Twins sails, and by the time the smoke cleared, the White Sox had tacked 5 runs on the board against the Twins bullpen to win 7-1.

Sox in First- I have not had an opportunity to post here in a few days, so let me add that the White Sox are now in first place by 1.5 games over Cleveland. What does this mean? It means that the White Sox are back where they should be. They are the New York Yankees of the new millenia.

Brian Anderson coming around- Anderson had a couple of hits in the KC Royals series, and he had an RBI fly-out tonight. More impressive was that he jammed himself once tonight, which means that he is starting to get around on some pitches. He should come out of his slump soon. I am predicting he hits a homerun before the Twins series is over.

Play of the Night- Tonight's best highlight occurred during Comcast Sportsnet's pregame show. They showed a sweet White Sox World Championship recliner in front of Paul Konerko's locker in the White Sox clubhouse. A.J. Pierzynski had added his professional wrestling belt and a crown to the chair. It was said that the Sox player's had been calling PK "Barry" because of the recliner Barry Bonds insists be kept in front of his locker in San Francisco.

Before anyone (as if people will actually read this) freaks out about PK becoming a prima donna, I should point out that this was a promotion by the Sox. PK has not had a recliner stipulation added to his contract a la Barry Bonds. As Chuck Garfien pointed out on the pregame show, the difference between Bonds and Konerko is that Konerko has 5 more homeruns.
